Adult Scouters: Troop 387 Needs You Trained!!!
- General Points About Training
- Many volunteers help on both the Scoutmaster and Committee side of the troop. However, they may
be formally trained on one side or the other
- You can act as an Asst Scoutmaster or work on the Troop Committee without being trained.
While doing so you can wear an "Assistant Scoutmaster" or "Troop Committee" patch. However,
unless you are trained for your position, you can not wear a "Trained" patch.
- If you are formally trained, you can wear a trained patch on your left sleeve.
- You may be trained for either the (1) Committee side (i.e. operations) or
(2) Scoutmaster side (i.e. the program)
- It is best for the boys to have adults trained.
- The District pushes troops to have their adult volunteers trained. There is one District award where
one of the requirements is that at least 50% of the adults are trained for their position
(i.e. for their position on the Committee or as an Asst. Scoutmaster)
- The time to start training is as soon as you join the troop
- As you get trained and collect cards reflecting the training, (1) keep your cards in a safe place
and (2) give a copy of the cards to the Adult Training Coordinator
-
Youth Protection Training (YPT)
- We wish to have all adult Scouts and those who participate in troop activities to be YPT certified.
- This training takes ~ 1/1/2 hours and can be done on-line or by attending a class
- IF you do it on-line (Roadrunnerdistrict.org):
- You must be a registered adult Scouter and you must have your Scout ID number
- Print two copies of your completion (one for you, one for the Adult Training Coordinator)
- Formal training locations can be found online at www.roadrunnerdistrict.org
- It must be repeated every 3 years.
- Fast Start Training
- It is the first step for any new volunteer.
- Do this as soon as your son joins the troop.
- This should be done before you interact with Scouts
- It is an On-line (Roadrunnerdistrict.org or Longhorncouncil.org) introduction to Boy Scouting
- Topics include the Troop meeting, Committee meeting, the outdoor program,
the basic concepts of scouting, and information on the Scout uniform
- This training is only to get you started. It does not contribute to you becoming officially "Trained."
